This box has been in my house for four generations.
The story came with my greatness.
Grandfather from Ireland in 1842.
51 centimeters long, 36 cm wide, about 15 cm (
6 inch by 14 by 20)
Come down from the ground and carve around.
There are four heavy glass parts inside.
Each piece is 18 cm long, 11 cm wide and 5 cm deep (7 by 4. 52 inches)—
By a spring-
The glass partition of the lifting load.
The brass lock strip is stamped with a "patented Double Bar", Crown, check mark and R.
There is Velvet under the glass.
If you lift the whole part out, there is a long flat metal spring.
The top was damaged in the fire.
We have always wondered what the original purpose of this case was and would be greatly appreciated if you could provide any light.

The spring helps seal the four glass compartments with the inside glass cover to keep the cigar fresh.
Some of the boxes were made of metal, but later examples were made of a cedar-like Redwood.

The lid damage removes more engraving on the top panel, which does reduce its value.
Still, cigars and their gear are very popular.
