Chennai: a good neighbor smiles at you on the fence at the back, but doesn't climb up, a wag once said.
Jayamani, 35, has more than one fence to climb in Mangadu. No problem.
The people next door roared at her, and she alternately climbed the 10-foot wall with a ladder, or simply climbed the other wall, on a dark night, she poured a bunch of clean acid on their plants and light commercial vehicles.
Jayamani did so every other night for no less than three months and did not stop until the neighbor installed the surveillance camera and caught her in the action.
The police were surprised by her retaliation and detained her for questioning on Monday.
The 40-year-old Marimuthu, a neighbor of her rental generator, was shocked at first, and many woke up in the morning to find the exterior of his LCV burned and the plants in the garden burnt.
He quickly reasoned that acid was the cause of the injury, but he could not imagine who would make such an abnormal attack on his property.
He went to the mangardu police.
They went into the dead end and advised him to install a surveillance camera.
"Marimuthu, following our instructions, quietly installed CCTV cameras around his house last weekend without reminding neighbors or friends," said a police officer . ".
After discovering another secret attack on Sunday, he reminded the police.
They checked the video of the camera and found out the culprit.
"Jayamani will carry out the attack between midnight and three o'clock A. M. when members of both families fell asleep," the official said . ".
"She denied the charges when we took her away to inquire.
But we showed her our video to prove she was lying.
Jayamani told investigators that she was angry with Marimuthu and his family because they let the sewage into her house and sometimes threw it out of garbage.
"She tried to fight with Marimuthu several times, but he didn't care about her at all," the official said . ".
"It made her even more angry, and she thought of destroying his property with acid.
"We have not registered the case so far.
We hope that the parties concerned will reach an understanding . "
